Newport City suffered a second successive league defeat following a narrow home loss against Ynyshir Albions. The result also extended the Steelmen's disappointing start at Newport Stadium, after losing all three of their league matches there so far this season.
The Steelmen started strongly and almost went ahead early on. Rio Booth fired over the crossbar, while Robbie Willmott saw a long range effort blocked and diverted behind for a corner.
The visitors then almost went ahead when Joseff Haig broke clear inside the area, but dragged his shot narrowly wide of the post. City responded through Tomas Lynch, whose low effort was gathered by Ynyshir keeper Ollie Withers. Another threatening strike from Lynch was deflected wide soon after.
The Steelmen came even closer to breaking the deadlock late in the opening half. Dafydd Owen's dangerous delivery caused panic in the Ynyshir defence, as Rhys Morgan almost turned the ball into his own net. The hosts finished the half on top, as Willmott's audacious lob drifted just wide of the top corner.

City's resistance was finally broken on the hour mark when Ynyshir struck on the counter attack. Alex Harris produced a fine save to deny Christen Bethell, but the rebound fell to Cory Morgan, who fired into the bottom left corner.
The Steelmen nearly found an immediate equaliser, as Ynyshir’s Jago Norton almost diverted a cross into the back of his own net. Shortly after, Jake Wilson’s header was brilliantly tipped over by Withers from a corner.
City continued to push forward, with Lynch seeing a close range effort blocked. Kai Steadman came within inches of levelling, but his header crashed against the crossbar and over.
Further chances fell to Lynch and substitute Samuel Johnson, but neither could find the target. Ynyshir almost doubled their lead in stoppage time when Louis Cole dragged an effort narrowly wide.
The hosts threw everything forward in the closing stages, creating a series of corners and dangerous moments inside the penalty area. However, the visitors stood firm to secure all three points.
