Newport City 2-3 Treowen Stars

JD Cymru South

Newport Stadium – 20/03/2026

Newport City’s difficult run of form continued, following a home defeat against Treowen Stars. The result leaves the Steelmen winless in their last six matches, with five defeats in that period. The loss also allowed Treowen to leapfrog City in the league table, pushing them down to 9th place.

The Steelmen made a bright and assertive start, taking the lead in the 11th minute when Ellis Sage powered a header into the far corner from a well-delivered set piece.

City continued to apply pressure and looked the more dangerous side, creating further chances to extend their advantage. Louis Phillips fired over the bar when well placed inside the area, while Kyran Steadman saw a bouncing header drift narrowly over.

Despite the Steelmen’s control, Treowen found an equaliser on the half-hour mark. The visitors capitalised on a defensive lapse as City keeper Elliot Jones failed to claim a corner, allowing Dylan John to head into an unguarded net.

The Steelmen responded positively and ended the opening half on top. Steadman again came close with a header over the bar. Phillips was also denied by the post after a powerful low strike from close range.

The second half produced chances at both ends, with Phillips denied by Treowen keeper Cameron Clarke. Riley Lonergan also tested Clarke with a strike from distance, while Christian Davies fired over from close range for the visitors.

City did eventually restore the lead in the 71st minute, as Cole Mace’s low effort from the edge of the area found the bottom corner, despite Clarke getting a hand to it.

However, Treowen responded quickly, equalising in the 75th minute. After Jones failed to deal with a low cross, Carter Campbell was presented with a simple finish into an empty net.

The visitors then completed the turnaround six minutes later, with Harvey Selway finishing a swift counter-attack at the far post.

The Steelmen pushed for a late equaliser, but Mace’s curling effort was well held by Clarke. Treowen almost added a fourth late on, only for Eduardo Bregua to clear Corey Jenkins’ header off the line.

The final whistle came soon after, condemning City to their fourth successive league defeat.
